Shannon Webb

I am inspired by the simplest things, like avocado toast, in my daily journeys. I appreciate these mundane moments.
EDUCATION
I remember staying up until the middle of the night in the fourth grade working on a mission sculpture. I loved designing buildings. I found art as a way to express my feelings in high school. I studied art in college with many wonderful instructors at Cabrillo College, College of San Mateo, and Notre Dame de Namur (before they closed their art department).
I graduated with an Art degree, and continue to learn in workshops, participate in local shows, or just collaborate and share in lucky interactions, and challenge myself. I find it relaxing. I taught Art in Action for 13 years before Covid-19, and directed it for two more.
I began training myself to teach via videos and zoom, and distance interactions. Still I find art is a physical practice. There is much we can share across great distance through the web, and social media. However the physical processes of art are best taught with some physical presence, even if intermittent.
In addition to visual art education, I also studied music and theatre.

EXPERIENCE / PROCESS
I took just about every art class I could in college, visual and performing, in any media or genre available at the time. I got to play with everything: sculpture drawing painting, photography, printmaking, publishing, singing acting, video, radio and more.
I found life drawing the most inspiring, drawing from photos is great but real life you are forced to make choices, and you learn how you see, and learn to see more. I fell in love trying to capture movement, and gesture. It’s like Peter Pan chasing his shadow.
I have been showing since 1993 with South Coast Artists Alliance. (www.scaa-artists.org) I have been a collaborator on mural projects, and have written grants for projects over the years, and taught art to students in K-12.
I helped organize the first On-Line show for South Coast Artist Alliance (2020). It inspired me to update this site more often. We are back to our original physical site this 2022.
I am always learning.
I have worked on the Corazones project with Arte Motu, and many other projects with them. We lost a number of the hearts to the CZU wildfires. We are rebuilding thanks to a local grant from our local community resource center, Puente de la Costa Sur. We Conducted online sketchbook project with the Brooklyn Art library. That library also experienced a tragic fire, burning 60?% or the sketchbooks in a freak accident. So… I’m glad I photographed my book before sending and we shall see if my book made it.
it was scanned! So I will share that link.
Check out my 7 Heroes in 7 days project Also through them. That was so fun! YAY!.
I am a multi media artist. Generally that means I cannot decide what to work with ;-). But my new meditations allow me to overcome that wall.
I Love Elizabeth Murray's sculptural canvases. She inspired me to learn about 3D painting, and sculpture.
