I work in a variety of media. My subjects range from life to signs of life, representational or abstract.
Just Ten Minutes
This project started as a single painting I would work on for ten minutes, and then stop, and each day build on for another ten minutes. Stroke by stroke, square by square this grew. I have more in my portfolio at the bottom of the page. Those works ore not on display at the Madrone Art Galley.
Meditations in Media
These are meditations in media. I chose the single image, and made it repeatedly in different media.
Here I have images of a clay tile, watercolor on a black background that’s a light texture painting, and again in mixed media: wire, cloth, watercolor papers and light texture painting. I have another clay piece, and a silk painting also of this meditation (not pictured).
This tree image was originally made in a high relief texture painting that is shown further below on this page. I had so much fun with the image and the original I chose it for this meditation. I liked the way this project has allowed me to see more of how the medium is coloring my voice and expression.
These images were on display at the South Coast Artists’ Alliance 2022 art show this last August.

7 Heroes in 7 Days - with Brooklyn Art library - 2020
The images below are a part of the 7 Heroes in 7 Days project- put out by the Brooklyn Art Library: #bal_portrait. It was more like 7 heroes every other day I was not working, and then the August CZU lighting fires happened. I finished the last two after the evacuation ended. Sadly in 2022 the Brooklyn Art Library moved and a truck full of books burned. This was an inspiring project that helped me through some tough times.
"Bananas for Bats" was raffled in 2020 to a lucky Winner to raise funds for kids art programs in the LHPUSD school district. Unwrapping it reminded me how photos just don't do justice to the physical piece.
Go to museums. See you favorite works in person, it is so much more. More texture, light, dark, color, detail, just more. I am going to miss this piece but it is for a good cause. |
Pastels and Drawings
Currently I am working on a handmade book, and some textile projects.
I have 50 canvases prepped for a new project. The recent wildfires have impacted my coastal community. I Am consumed by thoughts of heroes, forces of nature, and the changes in the landscape around me. So those may feature in my work with those canvases.
im also interested in revisiting wire mediums.

Before Covid I taught art. It is so important to bring art opportunities to youth. Any creative art, be it painting sculpture, wood working writing. It is essential to expose kids to all the variety of skills and options early. Something with inspire them, you never know what.
The KPDO truck mural, pictured in the slides above, was a collaboration between Puente Youth Interns, myself - through South Coast Artist Alliance, the Pescadero Public Radio Service, and Pescadero Arts & Fun Festival. Sometimes it takes many groups coming together to bring a project to life. The projects can be complex to organize, but well worth the effort.
Special thanks to all the students involved in designing and painting this.
